The inclusion of this piece is mostly the result of a mild sentimentality, but in considering it I’ve come to appreciate its graces a bit more. It’s basically the first work of true “graphic design” I ever made, from back in high school when my attentions were more focused on the fine arts. It’s rudimentary and not all that noteworthy from a technical standpoint—though luckily I knew enough to opt for Helvetica instead of Arial—but I like its iconic quality, and I particularly like how Mr. Reagan is still recognizable despite the color reduction and facial obstruction.
Most of the actual copies of this that went out weren’t anything more than a black and white photocopy of what you see here (for reasons of both cost and ideology), though that unfortunate fact may have actually aided the aesthetic in some ways. That said, I prefer this version.
